KASTAŞ Sealing Solutions for Construction Machinery

Hydraulic sealing solutions for construction machinery and heavy industry

Construction machinery works under heavy shocks, changing temperatures and severe dust. In this environment KASTAŞ sealing solutions have a direct impact on hydraulic efficiency and equipment uptime. Ada Kauçuk offers a wide range of products for many industries through the KASTAŞ product catalogue.

The most sought-after groups for construction machinery

  • Hydraulic piston and rod seals: in boom, lift and steering cylinders.
  • Wipers: for protecting rods and bearings.
  • Guide elements: for controlling wear and side loads.
  • Static seals and O-rings: in valve and flange connections.

Planning sealing by industry

Dust and shock loads are high in mining and construction machinery; ambient conditions change with the seasons in agricultural machinery; and fast cycling comes first in mobile hydraulic equipment. See our industries page to find the right product group for your application.

How to reduce the cost of failures

  1. Stay true to the original size and material match.
  2. Do not neglect oil analysis and filter maintenance.
  3. Run a planned seal replacement programme.
  4. Manage stock in line with proper storage conditions.

What makes up a cylinder's seal kit?

When a construction machinery cylinder is dismantled, it is not a single part that is replaced but a group of elements that work together. Leaving one of them out shortens the life of the others that were renewed.

  • Wiper: Keeps dirt, mud and moisture out. It is the element that wears fastest in the field.
  • Rod seal: Stops oil escaping along the rod.
  • Piston seal: Prevents internal leakage between the cylinder's two chambers, so the load is held.
  • Guide elements: Take up side loads and prevent metal-to-metal contact. When they wear, the piston rubs against the tube and the seals start working under uneven load.
  • Back-up rings: Stop the elastomer extruding into the clearance gap at high pressure.

How field conditions change the choice

A cylinder of the same size needs different materials depending on where it works.

Mines and quarries: Abrasive dust is heavy. Double-lip wipers and highly wear-resistant polyurethane profiles come to the fore.

Construction and earthmoving: Mud, water and shock loading come together. Metal-cased wipers hold more securely in the housing.

Agriculture: Use is seasonal, with long idle periods. In cylinders that stand still for a long time, permanent deformation of the elastomer (compression set) is a separate risk.

Stationary plant: The environment is clean and the temperature stable. Here the deciding factors are cycle count and friction, not dust.

Check the sizes before replacement

If the part codes cannot be read when replacing a kit, you have to work from the dimensions. Enter the inner diameter, outer diameter and height in the size finder to see matching records, and narrow them down to the element type you need with the product group filter.
